El bronco

Estrenada en 1983, protagonizada por Valentín Truijillo y Maribel Guardia, acreditados con Alberto Rojas, Carmen Montejo y Ferrusquilla, dirigida por Edgardo Gazcón de Anda. La más oscura del cine mexicano, entre las comedias picarescas y el cine de ficheras, tuvo a bien situar en Mazatlán una adaptación mexicana de Rocky, película galardonada con el Óscar en 1976. Esta película muestra a lo largo época de su metraje diferentes áreas del Mazatlán ochentero, con sus cines y discotecas, algunas desaparecidas, además de las calles populares por donde pasa el protagonista. Donde El Cid Resorts hace acto de presencia como destino de hotel en la introducción de la película reconociéndose como el mejor Hotel de Mazatlán.

Contra el viento y la marea

Estrenada en 1962, protagonizada por Luis Aguilar y Ernesto Albán, acompañada por Alma Delia Fuentes, Alfonso Medina y Ariadna Welter, dirigida por Zacarías Gómez Urquiza. Inspirada en pequeños detalles en la celebre película El gran calavera de Luis Buñuel (1949), es una comedia donde un rico empresario de la pesca, en tiempos en que la flota del puerto ya era una de las principales de latinoamerica, pretendo darle una lección a sus hijos engreídos fingiendo su muerte. En la cinta se pueden apreciar tomas del aeropuerto y los muelles de Mazatlán.

Kings of the sun

Estrenada en 1963, protagonizada por George Chakiris, Yul Brynner y Shirley Ann Field, dirigida por Jack Lee Thompson. Mientras en el vecino Durango se grababan los chorizo ​​western, la primera superproducción estadounidense que tomó a la cultura maya como fondo narra el éxodo de estos, desde Yucatán hasta la costa norte del pacífico, donde una tribu india los hará pelear por la tierra. Esa tierra a la que llegan son las playas de Mazatlán, especialmente la playa Cerritos donde ahora se alzan varios hoteles y torres entre el mar, la arena, cerros y rocas que aparecen en sus escenas.

La sucesión

Estrenada en 1980, protagonizada por Mario Almada y Rafael Baledón, con la participación de Helena Rojo y Rafael Banquells, dirigida por Alfredo Gurrola. El cine policíaco de los 70’s y 80’s del siglo XX, así como el cine de los Almada, tuvo su encuentro con Mazatlán en esta película, en medio del conflicto del narco que se había desatado a partir de la muerte de Pedro Avilés, el León de la sierra. La película retrata la corrupción e ilegalidad de los gobiernos latinoamericanos, en el caso hipotético de un país sin nombre donde varios personajes buscan destruir al dictador.

Además del mar mazatleco, la película tiene tomas de los astilleros, cuando aun existía aquella playa sur, del Crestón y su faro. Estrenada en 1930, protagonizada por Raquel Torres y Charles Bickford, contando con una pequeña participación de Boris Karloff, quien después se convertiría en el inmortal Frankenstein de la Universal, y dirigida por Wesley Ruggles. Es el primer largometraje grabado en el puerto, un thriller estadounidense que narra la historia de una isla de pescadores que rinden culto a una mantarraya asesina a cambio de que esta no desató su furia en ellos.
